Just finished a motor swap on this beast. The old motor sounded great, but it was really tired. Compression was between 35 and 80 lbs. So I found a nice stock early 80s 350. I got it from a buddy for really cheap. I just finished putting it in, and it looks like its gonna be great!

The old 230 straight 6 bangers (with 3 in the tree) were really under appreciated with the 327s & 350s boppin' around, but it was one of the best engines I ever owned or worked on. And it was really great during the gas "shortage" days too. Would make a great backup if you ever run across one cheap. May have been what was originally in your truck.

That's a great feeling isn't it? Got a truck with what was supposed to be a good engine and ended up rebuilding another. Sucked paying the $ but when done I knew I was set. And it moved, 355 with 9.5 to 1 compression and a rv can in a S10 moves pretty damn good.
Oh ya, pulled the headers and still have true dual exhaust. I wrapped the headers too, even though there are warnings about headers rusting when wrapped. They get so hot that they melted a hole in the old starter solenoid. I figure in Ca they aren't really going to get wet, and if they rust out, ill put some block huggers on instead.
What I didn't take was the stupid Edlebrock carb and manifold. The stock Q-jet is just fine with me!

kingsnova: Hello all, I just bought a used 26" Mongoose Beast fat tire at a garage sale $140.00. Good deal till the rear bearings were loose and broke the axle. Anyone know how I can get parts to fix it?
