Well, I finally bit the bullet and bought a Hemi Magnum. I have liked those cars since the first time I saw the now famous "what have you got in that thing?" tv commercial. www.youtube.com/watch?v=qo3wcPgelIM The thing really flies and handles better than you'd expect from a 4200lb wagon. I'll do some tweaks on it and get some 1/4 track time this summer. I figure it'll be a good tow vehicle for our '74 Javelin. Stay tuned!
I have been looking for a good one of those to replace an aging Taurus wagon, but have found only very high millage ones. My brother has one but he won't sell it...of course, he won't let me have his Challenger SRT8 392 either. What is that all about.
The 300 front end would look pretty cool on there.
I finally took the magnum to the drag strip tonight to see how slow it actually is. I'm proud of my big girl! My best pass was 14.478 at 97.21 mph, running on cheap 87 octane fuel and on a humid 84' day. Thats honkin pretty good for a 4300 lb luxo-barge, and over the course of driving to and from the track and making 8 runs I averaged 23.4mpg! I am going to have a hard time resisting the urge to start souping this thing up...that was a really fun night!
There's nothing like having a big ass stealth bomber station wagon, regardless of the brand, to embarass the kids in their souped up crackerboxes at stoplights! I looked all over for a low mileage Magnum R/T; they are out there, but like Peatbog I saw mostly high mileage ones until I lucked out finding one that was a 'car guy's summer toy. Keep looking and you will find a fresh one, and hey, if there are lots of high mileage Magnums on the market thats a good thing because it means they hang together. Even the six-cylinder SXT 3.5HO Magnums go pretty damn good, and there are a lot more of them on the market. I would have loved to have found a low mileage Magnum SRT8 but they are really rare, at least around here.
