I picked up a 1992 Caprice Wagon from a kid in Philly about two years ago . Primer black , spray bombed , big and ugly , with a 350 , and seating for 9 . When I went to go look at it he started it up , and you could hear a vacuum leak . The kid said " Yeah , if you change the spark plugs , the trans will shift better ! " I replied " Yeah , I was thinking the same thing ! " I looked at my friend who was with me , he says " Buy it . " Got the kid down off his price , got it home , found the unattached line to the trans , Wa La ! , problem solved . When I first bought it I stopped at the LBS and a lady Said " That car makes you look like a bad ass , how did you get it to look like that ? " My response was " It wasn't easy ! " Almost forgot - right now it needs rear brakes , $120 , 11 " rear drums . Hey , you need something to stop nearly 5k of car when its rolling down the highway . If I ever stop coming up with bicycle projects maybe I'll take the time to fix it up .

Love the wagons post some pics of it. Just sold my '94 Caprice cop car. Fastest $400 I've ever spent. Had it to 125mph but let off there because it was so worn out it sorta floated all over. Lol. Sold it for $400 as well, so free transportation for 2 yrs. Great cars.
Now the weather just needs to get decent so he can come get it.

They had a wagon also 1A2 in addition to the 9C1 that could outrun the Camaro police vehicle , astounding . I've read that the optical ignition was a problem . It's a shame that they came out with the Gen III SB ,I think that the reverse flow engine had its merits . I'll post some photos later .

I was cleaning the grease off the carpet in the back of the wagon today , and came up with the idea of taking out the carpet and doing it up like and old pickup bed , wood with chrome rails . The thing that would nee to be worked out is that the floor is hinged for the third row seat .

Thanks for the tip about using teak oil to seal the wood . Yeah , cowl hoods are nice . Was thinking of Cragar V5's for wheels. They're steel , just the thing for the streets around here . The winter has really done a number this year .
i have an 86 caprice classic brougham. brown on tan, vinyl roof, burgundy pillowtop seats. needs more tlc than i can afford right now but i bought it for a dollar so who cares. I love those blank steel rims

Went to get rear shocks and brakes yesterday . Shocks , no problem . Brakes , different story . They are 11" drums , but are they 17lb - 11" x 3" , or 23lb - 11" x 4 1/2 " ? This is no joke , the tires for this boat are stinking heavy . but , has to be done , it needs brakes bad . So , gonna go pull the wheel tomorrow .

Agreed , but you need something to stop nearly 5000 lbs of vehicle . I ended up pulling a wheel and it's official , 11" x 3" . I would have figured the same thing Peat . Guess the 11" x 4 1/2" was for the police / taxi . Called Autozone , waiting for parts to come to the store .
That makes sense on the Police/Taxi brakes. Bigger helps the cooling too. Probably figured the normal car wouldn't be in many high speed chases overheating the brakes!
I remember when most brakes were thick enough you could turn them down several times until they were too thin. Now you turn them once and you pretty much hit the limit. I suppose a lot of that though is companies trying to reduce weight to help mpg to hit government mandated mileage figures.
