Here we go! I received the first of my parts tonight for my latest project, The Godpigeon. This will be based on a Flying Pigeon frame/fork (the national bicycle of China) re-imagined in the style of a '30s Path Racer. Think of it as a Pashley Guv'nor with more humble (but most honorable) roots.
Tonight, you get an idea of my color pallette: That's a leather saddle with copper-plated rails and hardware, a pair of pedals with copper plated cages, and a set of lock-on leather grips with bronze-tone bands. The chain out in the garage is a standard brown piece, and the wheels and frame on their way are... well... something I'm going to leave for my next update.

That's right, kiddies. UGV-exclusive content. The build info isn't being posted anywhere else, and when I share it after it's done, a link to the build thread is going to direct traffic HERE.
It's a small thing (that's what SHE said), but if we're going to grow this place, it's going to take stuff like this.
Wheels and frame/fork expected in the next couple of days.

No big changes. A trip to the Bike Shop in Oxnard scored me a used, old-school SR road stem, so I cut down an old pair of cruiser bars as stand-ins for the bars I'm actually planning to use, and slipped the leather grips on there. The seat is just sitting on the frame - I haven't decided whether to use a black or raw aluminum post, yet.
Dude that is so sic and slick as hell. What a score on the frame and fork. It's a great base. I have seen many of these builds, but this is the best looking so far.

Those frame and fork sets are on ebay... was less than $80 including shipping. That rack that came with it (along with fenders and chainguard) is a monster - probably weighs as much as the entire frame from the Rod Baron.

Not really a repop, because they've just continued making them this way since the Boxer Rebellion. It's the same bike, made the same way on the same jigs, all based on some early Dutch bike or Raleigh that the Chinese copied during the early twentieth century.

dudeist: bikes are in Concord, NH S&W bikes and Boards, 603-228-1441. They open at 10 am tomorrow and the kid will take a while to photo & list, so maybe You get a head start.
May 20, 2013 18:20:07 GMT -5
dudeist: They're going on e-bay tomorrow. I have pics w/ prices if anyone's interested. I think the shop owner bought them and raised the prices already, so maybe no ridiculous bargains, esp. w/shipping from NH. Would've bought the Proflex if it fit, tho.
